This is a government-funded home for 31 boys aged from 6 to 18 yrs. Unfortunately government funding seems to apply to providing a derelict building, the minimum of food and little else. The conditions these boys live in including the kitchen and storeroom are appalling and rats were living in the plastic food storage bins. Water is taken directly from an open well and when required for washing etc has to be heated on a wood fire in the back yard. We have provided stainless steel bins and racking for the kitchen, a water purifier for drinking water and various recreational items including two bicycles. The kitchen was tiled and painted in 2005 with a donation from supporters from Shaldon, Devon. Our volunteers visit and help the boys with their homework in the evenings.
